Character Background and Description Seo-Yun is a Korean boy of the lower class. He was orphaned after both his parents joined the AFTER in a last-ditch effort to provide for him and his older siblings. His father was injured in a work accident and could no longer keep a job, and his mother, after seeing her husband's resolve to join the AFTER for the allowance given to his family, decided to leave with him instead of living without him. Seo-Yun now lives with his older sister, her husband, and their children in a cramped house in the lower district. Their brother works within the black market and keeps mostly to himself, only contacting his siblings occassionally.
To escape the cramped house, Seo-Yun explored the different trading hubs and met an older scavenger man. He lied about his age, and was offered a spot on the party for an excursion the following night. He snuck out of his sister's house, was outfitted in a borrowed gas mask and gear, and made his first journey down the decommissioned elevator shafts. His small size helped his group uncover some valuable hard-to-reach supplies, and he was given a permanent place amongst the scavengers. He now has all his own gear that he keeps in his mentor's home so that his sister doesn't find out about the scavenging. He has also just been gifted his own gas mask that he is starting to decorate on his own. His artistic skills are lacking, so he's been frequenting the different tattoo shops and seamstresses for guidance and materials. Many of the lower class artists and craftsmen have connections to the scavengers to get first-pick at supplies, so Seo-Yun is known by sigh - he is welcomed into shops and treated with respect and kindness. Some tattoo artists have taken it upon themselves to help him make the coolest gas mask ever, and make him a sight to behold.
With his close connections to different adult groups in the lower class, Seo-Yun's friendliness and charisma helped boost his growing maturity and integration into the community. He loves to be sarcastic and backtalk, especially to his mentor who he sees as a father figure, but he is also quick to smile and is eager to please. He has phases of morose and anger when he remembers the loss of his parents, and feels abandoned and forgotten by his family, which motivated him to make a new family within his community. He is shorter and thinner than most boys his age, but he recently hit a small growth spurt that has made all his pants too short. He has a thin angular face and shorter black hair that needs to be cut soon.
